Socom 4 Multiplayer Breakdown

Zipper Interactive is bringing back one of the most recognized series on the PlayStation.

Socom 4 releases on April 19th, 2011. This will be the second Socom on the PS3 but the first by the original developer, Zipper. Single player is sure to be a nice experience like the old Socom games on PS2, but the main component of the Socom series has always been multiplayer.

In Socom 4 multiplayer has changed a lot from past games. There will be a Classic mode and a Respawn mode. Classic mode will offer game play similar to the old games. Things like no respawn and no health regeneration return. However some components from previous games are gone. There is no more grenade arc that allows you to accurately place a grenade throw. There is also no more lean. Lean has been replaced by a Uncharted 2 style snap to cover system.

Respawn mode is completely new to the Socom series. This offers respawn in all game modes, such as in the Call of Duty franchise. Health regeneration also is in this mode.

Custom lobbies were always a part of Socom. They have now been removed. Instead players will be put into matches using a matchmaking system similar to just about every other shooter out there.

The game types are as follows:

-Suppression is team deathmatch. They put supply crates in the maps. And "rare" pickups

-Last Defense has three neutral satellites that teams try to take control of, think domination in COD. When a team dominates all three points it will show where the enemy HQ is that you have to destroy. So basically its domination combined with HeadQuarters.

-Uplink is Capture the Flag. The defending team has data stations in the map. The attacking team must steal data from those stations and return in from their own stations.

It was confirmed that 5 player online co-op will be included.

Socom 4 is sure to be one of the big hits in 2011.
